Mission of the Muscatatuck Park
In today’s business environment it is essential that all entities closely analyze and prepare mission directives. Competition, scarce funds, and a host of other issues make efficiency one of our most demanding judging criteria. Without a clearly defined mission statement it is impossible to objectively critique our agency’s business actions. Being able to objectively define and carry out our proposed purpose guarantees that our funding is used responsibly. Because the Muscatatuck Park uses the citizen’s dollars from tax generated monies, it is essential that our goals are clearly defined and that we are answerable to the public at all times.
OUR MISSION: “The Muscatatuck Park is to be managed as a regional/metropolitan park. Historically this has been the park's mode of management, yet also doubles as a community park, triples as a neighborhood park, and also supplies aspects of block parks. At times, the quality of the park's best assets are minimized and in conflict with other activities at the park. Current fund generating aspects of the park should be maintained and upgraded, as should supporting amenities. The overall “feel” of the Muscatatuck Park should be one of natural beauty, cleanliness, and peacefulness. Conflicting aspects of this objective should be removed, relocated, replaced, or otherwise modified. The historical aspects of the park (as well as the natural) can be tied into an educational experience to help the marketing and the eventual upgrading of the park’s assets. Creating a cohesive professional product is essential. Marketing of our assets is also needed to insure our usable income. Research, planning, and partnerships are essential elements in producing a professional and marketable recreational setting. Outside funding, cost sharing, planned partnerships, supporting programs, are all ways to stretch our limited funding, and should be pursued diligently. The Muscatatuck Park is a unique asset to the community of Jennings. The Park should, indeed, remain community oriented. The Park should be the focal point of many community and family events, but should not have its unique qualities reduced by overcrowding and over programming. ” (Taken and slightly modified from the 1998 -2002 Jennings County Parks and Recreation Master Plan.)
